INTERNSHIP PROJECT – 2021

Thousands of cameras in doorbells owned by Amazon monitor our streets every day. Shutterring is a physical slider that is easily attached to Ring, minimizing data collection and making it just a smart doorbell again.

Estimates count over half a million Ring doorbells in the Netherlands alone. Since we have no insight into Amazons' intentions, this creates a problem. Shutterring is easily attached to the Ring and diffuses the camera, only making the image visible when sliding up. During my internship at The Incredible Machine, I was in charge of developing the visual identity of Shutterring, product communication/marketing and product engineering. I also designed the physical shipping box, together with graphic design studio Autobahn (https://autobahn.nl). View more at Responsible Sensing Lab.

Shutterring has been developed in collaboration with Responsible Sensing Laband has been exhibited within the Dutch Design Week program Up Close & Personal. Shutterring is based on a simple 3D printed mechanism and is available open-source.
